Actress Nhung Kate and her sister Duong Hoai Thuong won the consolation prize of the first season of “COMINK” contest founded by director Charlie Nguyen and his friends.
The work of Nhung Kate and Duong Hoai Thuong is called “Descendants of the Dragon”. Nhung Kate said the work was drawn based on the movie script of her boyfriend Johnny Tri Nguyen. She did not use the stage name Nhung Kate to participate but left her name as faceless.
She added that even though she was busy with filming and promoting the series “The Continential” – a prequel about the famous big screen assassin character John Wick, she still supported her sister in completing the exam, and only withdrew. retreat in the final stage.
The work that won first prize was “Lion Heart” by a group of three people named Vu Song Toan (stage name: DaC). The work “Seed” by Phan Lam Tuong (Cearabbit) won the second prize and the third prize went to the work “Keeper” by Pham Quynh Anh (Quy _ _). The remaining consolation prize winning works include: “The Seven Kings” by Ngo Chu An, “King of the Chessboard” by Tran Vo Kim, “Wish beyond the stars” by Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy.
“COMINK” is an annual comic creation competition starting in 2022 founded by Australian filmmaker Paul Brenner along with film director – producer Charlie Nguyen and friends.
The contest is for everyone who is passionate about telling stories with drawings, regardless of level, experience, age, gender or region. The only requirement is that the comic must be original and unpublished.
Director Charlie Nguyen and his colleagues hope to find unique stories to turn into movies or series, as major studios in Hollywood and Japan have been doing.
The first season of the competition ended after more than a year, with 170 entries. Many contestants participated in two works at the same time with two completely different themes. Of these, 26 works went through three rounds of rigorous selection to reach the final round. Finally, the jury selected the 7 best works to award prizes.
The contest organizers were overwhelmed with the contestants’ creativity, through their delicate drawings, ability to design unique characters, and unique color combinations. Contestants also showed their exploration and exploitation of many different story genres, from action, historical, sci-fi, mystery to gentle love stories.

The winning contestants were sponsored by the Vietnam Academy of Comics and Animation with attractive courses worth up to 20 million VND. In addition, each winner will also be sponsored by Phan Thi company, the most popular XPPen electronic drawing board on the market today.
Season 2 of the contest is still continuing with a total prize value of up to 300 million VND. In addition to cash prizes, winners also receive in-kind rewards as well as valuable courses with experts in the field of fine arts and film production.
